Riddick & Windley collaborating with Tideland EMC

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, March 19, 2003

Pantego/Belhaven -- Offering consumers another opportunity to shop locally, Riddick & Windley Hardware of Belhaven is collaborating with a subsidiary of Tideland Electric Membership Corporation. Tideland Appliance, located at 6806 Highway 55 East in Pamlico County, will stock Riddick & Windley with a variety of white goods including freezers, stoves and laundry equipment.

Customers may also browse numerous catalogs from which the Belhaven store can place custom orders. Featured appliance lines include GE, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, Bosch, Thermador, Viking, Fisher and Paykel, Jenn-Air and Sub-Zero.

According to Riddick & Windley owner Corki Leverett, “We want to bring price and selection a little closer to home for those who frequent Belhaven.”

Tideland EMC’s chief executive officer Bill Stacy agrees saying, “Both Riddick and Windley and Tideland Electric were formed in the  1930’s, so people know us and like doing business with us. We’ve had tremendous success with our Reelsboro store thanks to steady growth in Craven County and surrounding areas. And while Beaufort County can’t sustain a store solely devoted to appliance sales, there is a niche market that prefers to buy from an independent retailer.”

Leverett wholeheartedly agrees, noting that the success of her business rests in being a little bit of everything to all people. “The general store is alive and well in rural areas including Belhaven,” Leverett says. That’s reflected along the store’s aisles which boast the ever-popular Radio Flyer wagons and gourmet food items tucked between isles of weed killer, pipe fittings and now appliances. For those with nothing to spend  but a little time, there are rocking chairs and a checkerboard right in the middle of the 20,000 square foot showroom.

Riddick & Windley is located at 235 Pamlico Street, adjacent to the Belhaven waterfront.
